Hating the Haters

If you can’t take an opposing opinion, then don’t even debate.

Example:

I was in a forum and the question of whether or not homosexuals should be ashamed or not came up. The majority of people said no, but those who said yes were attacked. Which I find ironic, because those who are not opposed to homosexuality are now no better than those who are.

If someone is against homosexuality, I respect them and their opinion. Someone actually put, “No, I don’t think homosexuals should be ashamed. But those who voted yes SHOULD be ashamed.” Really? Why? Because their opinion differs from yours? Because they aren’t as open-minded as you? Because they were brought up with different beliefs? Because they have valid reasons why homosexuality is wrong?

I’m not opposed to homosexuality. And if someone disagrees with me, that does NOT make them a bad person. They have their reasons just as I have mine. Just because someone opposes homosexuality doesn’t mean they hate all people who are homosexuals. People who oppose it could have a homosexual family member or friend. That doesn’t mean they have to like what that person chooses to do. I think most “open-minded” people assume if someone is against homosexuality they are also against the person who is homosexual. How “close-minded” is that?

I may disagree with you, but I’m not going to hate you. You have a right to believe in what you believe in. I’m no better or lesser than you.
